80 Minuten Freiheit
A Journey Through Wiesbaden for the Week of Freedom 2015
In the name of freedom, the Berlin Wall fell in 1989. But in the name of which freedom? Was it the same freedom that led the Americans to march into Wiesbaden in 1945? Or the one that inspired artists to smash pianos?
Twenty-five years after German reunification, the word freedom has been so overused in political programs and advertising that it has lost its power. Is that a good sign? Have we reached the freest moment in our history? Or are we at risk of losing our freedom altogether?
"80 Minutes of Freedom" invites participants on an unusual walk through the city. Guided and accompanied by voices in their ears, they encounter the citizens of Wiesbaden—critics and bon vivants, experts and activists—all with their own personal connection to this vast concept of freedom. At unexpected locations, history, present, and future converge—along with our own perspectives.
How free are we really? Which freedoms are worth fighting for? And what happens after 80 minutes?
